Andaz Wailea

TLDR: nice location, but overpriced and overhyped for what you get. Rooms have a weird layout, lanai doors have no screens (so you can't leave them open to smell that fresh Hawaiian air), and the property's exterior design is a "concrete jungle" instead of "Hawaiian paradise". Rooms: Ok, let’s get this out of the way right up front: the rooms at the Andaz are set up very weird. And if you’re like us and not lucky or wealthy enough to score an ocean-view room, you’re in for a very ugly experience. Despite making this booking 10 months in advance, they changed our room on the day of arrival. The staff placed us in a room facing away from the ocean, near the loading dock and the garbage dumping area, so whenever we opened the sliding door to the balcony, we were inevitably met with the clash of bottles being dumped or the constant beeping of a forklift backing up. There are also no screens on the lanai doors, so there was no way to keep the windows open at night. Instead, they want all of their guests to stay locked up in their rooms with the AC running. Doesn’t seem very environmentally friendly to me, especially when it's 67° outside overnight. This is a huge miss. If you like breathing in fresh Hawaiian air while you sleep at night, this is not the property for you. Location: Excellent spot in the Wailea area. Of the five major hotels in this area (Andaz, Marriott, Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, and Fairmont), I’d say this one definitely has one of the best beach locations. Both Ulua and Mokapu beaches are fantastic for swimming and snorkeling, and they are right there in front of the Andaz property. Parking: Valet only, and it’s expensive! $59/night is ridiculous, and there’s no reason they couldn’t have offered self-parking options. Luckily, the valets were all super nice and, for the most part, very quick to retrieve our vehicle. Lobby & Grounds: The overall entryway and lobby are nice and modern, but much smaller and more compact than the Marriott next door or the Grand Wailea. The grounds were highly hardscaped, which again looks modern, but it doesn’t feel nearly as cozy and comfortable as other hotels (like the Grand Hyatt Kauai) that rely on lots of landscaping, trees, and flowers. If you’re into the cold, modern aesthetic, then you might like the Andaz. It didn’t appeal to us, though. Pools: The pools are just ok. Four tiers, each of them mostly rectangular. They look "luxurious" but just not very interesting. We felt the Grand Wailea or the Sheraton Maui had much nicer pool systems. Conclusion: We’ve stayed at a lot of resorts in Maui and Kauai, and unfortunately, this one is near the bottom for us. If you want to stay in South Maui, I recommend the Wailea Beach Resort next door, or the Fairmont Kea Lani further south.

Great property and great staff. Our favorite property to stay on Maui. An abundance of activities, great food, spectacular beach and an assortment of pools to relax (sun or shade). We prefer the condos with multiple baths and bedrooms along with living space, private patios and some have plunge pools. We have visited several times and will be back.

We had a wonderful stay at the Andaz Maui! The resort is beautiful and the staff was great from start to finish. It has a little bit of everything, and my mom and I especially loved the adults only tranquility pool for some quiet relaxation. The food at the beach bar was delicious too. A five star experience all around, would go back in a heartbeat.

We had an amazing stay at Andaz Maui! The hotel is beautiful, very clean, peaceful, and relaxing. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and always ready to help. The food was excellent, with plenty of delicious options. The entire property is well maintained, and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing vacation. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Maui. We will definitely be back! 🌴🌺
