Aspen Art Museum

The Aspen Art Museum is a spectacular 5/5 star contemporary art destination that shines as a architectural and cultural masterpiece in downtown Aspen. Designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Shigeru Ban, the building itself is a work of art, wrapped in a striking, woven wooden screen that floods the interiors with gorgeous natural light. Inside, the non-collecting museum hosts an exceptionally dynamic, ever-changing rotation of global contemporary art exhibitions, meaning every visit offers a completely fresh, thought-provoking perspective from innovative international and local artists. The highlight of the experience is undoubtedly taking the glass elevator up to the rooftop sculpture garden, which offers a truly breathtaking, unobstructed panorama of Ajax Mountain alongside world-class art installations. The museum is entirely free to the public, making this top-tier cultural experience wonderfully accessible to everyone. To top it off, the rooftop café is a phenomenal spot to enjoy a locally sourced snack or espresso while soaking in the alpine scenery. The staff is remarkably welcoming and helpful, eager to guide you through the layouts or explain the current concepts on display. The best and most interesting is the building itself, glass, concrete and wooden architecture, don't miss the terrace for a good look at the town and mountains or if you want to have some basic food and drinks. The art itself is a random collection of weird stuff, good for visiting before going to the airport if you have some extra time. Street parking.

The building itself is an impressive piece of architecture featuring an earthy woven exterior with a interior/exterior staircase that that reaches the rooftop. Entry and coat check are free and there’s a nice cafe on the roof with a great view of the slopes.

During a ski trip to Aspen, I enjoyed my visit to the museum. I'm not sure why this museum has received so many low reviews, as I found the current exhibitions to be both interesting and informative. The café on the top floor also offered a decent variety of food and drink options.
