The Boston Public Library feels less like a standard library and more like a secret, grand European palace hidden right in Copley Square. The Vibe: Walking into Bates Hall with its endless rows of glowing green lamps and soaring stone arches feels completely surreal—like stepping straight onto a movie set. The Art: The museum-grade murals by John Singer Sargent elevate the entire space into a living gallery. The Oasis: My absolute favorite spot is the hidden, open-air Italian courtyard. Sitting by the fountain with a book is the ultimate city escape. The Perfect Rainy Day Escape: I ended up spending a few hours here today. It is the absolute perfect sanctuary when the weather is bad. Sitting under the glowing green lamps in Bates Hall, completely lost in a book beneath the soaring stone arches, felt absolutely surreal. It is an endless maze of jaw-dropping architecture and quiet corners. You will easily lose track of time exploring and honestly won't want to leave.

I had the chance to visit this place during my trip to Boston, and it quickly became one of my favorite stops in the city. As someone who appreciates architecture and interior design, this place felt like a perfect blend of art, history, and design. One of my favorite parts was exploring the galleries and reading rooms. The large-scale murals and ornate details create an atmosphere that feels both inspiring and timeless. There is so much to see that it's worth taking your time rather than rushing through. The courtyard was another highlight for me. The combination of the fountain, greenery, and surrounding arches creates a peaceful space that feels removed from the busy streets outside. It was the perfect place to slow down and take everything in. What stood out most was how every corner seemed to tell a story. Whether it was the artwork, architecture, or historical details, there was always something interesting to discover. If you're visiting Boston, I highly recommend stopping by. Even if you're not usually interested in libraries, this place is an architectural and cultural masterpiece that's well worth experiencing.

The Boston Public Library is hands-down one of my favorite wedding venues in Boston. Every time I shoot here, I’m reminded of how uniquely timeless it is. From the epic European-inspired courtyard to the sweeping grand staircases and marble halls, every corner feels like it belongs in a magazine. The iconic green lamps in the Bates Hall, the second floor balcony overlooking the courtyard, the checkered floor of the Abbey Room, and the art murals everywhere truly make this venue feel like a museum even more than a library. Dare I say there are TOO many beautiful places for photos! Couples love how the space blends historic elegance with downtown Boston energy. Your ceremony can feel intimate in the courtyard, then flow seamlessly into cocktail hour and reception in the grand spaces, surrounded by architectural details that never fail to wow guests. There’s a sense of scale and sophistication here that’s hard to find anywhere else in Boston. The coordinators at BPL + The Catered Affair are absolute pros. They have weddings down to a science in the best way. They’re organized, calm, and helpful, which makes the day feel smooth no matter how many moving parts there are. And because the library is such a special backdrop, every photo turns out cinematic. If you’re looking for a venue that’s classic, stunning, and iconic, the Boston Public Library is it.

Beautiful library. Has a tea shop and bar inside. On the second floor there is a room with murals depicting the story of Galahad. And it’s also a functioning library of you need a quiet place to study.
