Churchill Downs

We visited Churchill Downs for Twlight Thursday. There were several food trucks and drink specials. The facility is beautifully maintained. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is electric and I can only imagine what it would be like on Derby Day! I recommend placing several small bets. It makes the races even more exciting when you are cheering for your horse. I know nothing about betting or how to pick a horse, so I placed simple win, show or place bets in lower dollar amounts. You can place bets in person (bring cash, no credit or debit cards are accepted for waggering), at the windows or self service machines. My husband downloaded the twin spires app to place his bets. I loved sitting right at the rail to see and feel the horses coming down the home stretch! We both had an amazing time and I hope to go back soon!

September 6, 2025. When we visited, they were not racing. So iconic. WE couldn't imagine what the atmosphere would be for Derby Day. This place is so awesome. We loved the museum areas showcasing D. Wayne Lucas and Secretariat.

I’m sure it’s an amazing tour…unless you’re with a group of seniors and the staff and volunteers treat you as if you’re children or looking to take something. The guide refused to use a microphone. We weren’t allowed to let the seniors off by the breakfast area so they had to walk quite a long way. Then the reservation for breakfast was “lost” yet they knew it was 34 people. I was very sad at how they spoke to the group. Only Barb, Judy and Mike were nice and friendly. They are very much appreciated! The gentleman who did the front part of the track tour was very good and used a microphone. The saving grace were the workers of Hatitude who helped the seniors create a unique Derby hat to take home. Thank you for saving the day!

Went for Twilight Thursday races and had a great time. The chicken fingers were huge and yummy. The Mint Julips were so good and in a pretty glass. General admission tickets were great. We were right next to the track and had beautiful views.

Churchill Downs is an experience everyone should have at least once. Watching the horses race down the track and feeling the excitement from the crowd was unforgettable. Whether you’re a longtime horse racing fan or visiting for the first time, the atmosphere is incredible from start to finish. The entire facility was very clean, well organized, and easy to navigate. There were plenty of food and drink options, and the staff helped make the day enjoyable. If you’re trying to decide where to sit, we highly recommend Section 316B on the second level. The seats offer an excellent view of the finish line while also giving you a great perspective of the track, so you can watch the entire race unfold. It was the perfect location for our first visit. This was one of the best trips we’ve taken, and Churchill Downs exceeded our expectations. We would absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable day at the races.
