Columbus Museum of Art

We visited the museum on a Friday evening - we had couple of hours before 5 pm when the museum closed. Our primary objective was to spend more time at the European painting galleries. This museum houses few prized paintings by Monet, Renoir, Picasso and others. And we spent ample time in those galleries. The entrance fee was slightly on the higher side at twenty two dollars per adult. Lady at the front desk was very helpful and guided us based on our stated interests. An exhibition by local artists was on, and I must say - this exhibition was high quality, demonstrating thought provoking artwork using varied media. Gift shop was okay. I expected souvenirs based on artwork of popular artists to be available, but did find only very few of them - e.g., the Monet or Renoir. Overall, a good museum to spend an afternoon for art enthusiasts.

Since its foundation in 1878, the Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) has been one of the leading cultural institutions not only for this city, but for the whole of the state of Ohio. There are many noteworthy works on display here, spanning a period from the 16th century to the present day. Among the many, those that I believe are most worthy of mention are the works of Artemisia Gentileschi, the Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and the two leading figures of the Cubist movement, Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso. It is also very interesting to see how the CMA seeks to engage visitors in specific areas, encouraging them to express their creativity by making simple objects to display alongside those created by other visitors. Definitely worth a visit.

Great variety of collections. Especially liked the expressionists and the Contemporary exhibits. Lots of interesting activities for children. We spent 3 hours here and it was never boring. You can tell a lot of creative thought has been put into planning and curating the exhibits.

I LOVE coming here on the Reg, but ESPECIALLY on free Sundays! First time at the cafe and honestly feel like the GalPals that work there are the COOLEST dudettes. Shout out to Kali that helped us find the kids section’ my girl I made friends and did crafts together

You know, I was never a fan of being dragged to the art museum as a kid. It was boring! Who wants to stand around looking at pictures all day? But I think if the museum had been like it is now, I would have loved it. Even as an adult, it adds so much to the experience to have the themed activities in nearly every gallery. There are games, writing and drawing prompts, books to read, and more to really connect people of all ages with the artwork and keep you coming back. The free admission on Sundays and $5 Thursday nights are great, too! Whether you’re local or visiting, it really is worth your time to spend a few hours at one of the most accessible museums in town.
