Fredrick's Hotel

Nice historic building with plenty of character, but unfortunately the cleanliness and apparent lack of staff made the overall experience quite disappointing. Considering the amount of money we spent, I expected a much higher standard. I also paid extra for a garden-view room, but instead the view was mainly of the rooftops, which was very disappointing and did not reflect what had been advertised. The hotel itself feels very dated and poorly maintained, and I would not choose to stay here again. The bed was also of very poor quality. It consisted of two cheap single mattresses pushed together to create a double bed, which was uncomfortable and far below the standard I would expect from a hotel in this price range. From a health and safety perspective, I was particularly concerned that the maintenance area was easily accessible directly from our room by opening the door in the bathroom. The maintenance doors were left unlocked, meaning anyone could easily access the area or, more importantly, potentially gain access to another guest's room. This is a serious security concern that should be addressed. The only highlight of our stay was the spa, which was enjoyable. Breakfast was also disappointing. It was clear there had been several attempts to repair the ceiling, but the workmanship was poor, and the area still looked dirty and neglected.

Might of been a 4 star in 1996 - That was thirty years ago and nothing has been updated since then, little evidence of maintenance either. Original fixtures and fittings througout. Rooms were poorly cleaned, carpets dirty, surfaces dusty, appliances ancient. No A/C in room. Bed was comfy and slept OK on top of sheets with window wide open. Some interesting and nice art work around the corridors and communal spaces. Some staff were welcoming and pleasant, others giggly. Hotel is best described as a time capsule. It might four star in mind of the owner, but certainly isn't comparatively in the market. It has a certain Je ne sais quoi, a nostalgic, albeit dusty, and a somewhat strange hotel experience. Two stars awarded as such.

We went to use the spa facilities only, which were super well maintained and the outdoor pool is to die for. Great atmosphere and attentive staff. Highly recommend and definitely would return for the heated outdoor pool. The treatments were average, had to keep asking for a deeper pressure to be provided during the body massage.

My husband and I were so looking forward to an overnight stay whilst attending a wedding on Sat 27th June 2026. We thought we couldn't go wrong with a 4* hotel. On arriving, there was a power cut, which couldn't be helped. We left our bag in our room and used the bathroom.......the toilet was not cleaned and the toilet brush was disgustingly dirty and in an open bowl next to the loo. The tap was also broken. The whole room was sticky and dusty. On returning to the room later that evening the power was back on......the lights in the room were awful and the bathroom light was so bright and attached to a very loud fan which proved annoying in the night. The pillows were thin and uncomfortable. The air con was loud and badly positioned blowing directly at the bed. After an unpleasant night's sleep I realised on waking that our door had been open all night as didn't shut unless pushed hard......it is a fire door and should automatically shut itself! Then I realised that there were no tea bags in the selection left. We quickly got dressed to go for breakfast as without tea we couldn't have the restful morning we would have liked. The fixed shower head was too low to stand under! On entering the breakfast room we were told that it would be a self service breakfast.....the items on the menu weren't available that we were shown by the receptionist on arrival. I am vegetarian and there was no hot veggie options, in fact the food on offer was not hot. The room had no lights on and was very dark...... There were two waitresses on duty, yet neither of them were clearing tables......there were probably 10 tables full of dirty plates which we were forced to sit next to whilst we had our breakfast. The selection was poor.....the toast didn't even fit in the toaster and had to be turned over. There was no way the breakfast was worth the money you were charging. In fact our entire stay was not worth the money we paid......there is no way this hotel is of 4* standard. We were so disappointed and our night away was ruined. Mr and Mrs Rungen, room 110.

Would not recommend. We were really disappointed with our stay. The room was very dated, with furniture and facilities that were poorly maintained, overall the standard of cleanliness was poor. The curtains were stained and damaged, there was no air conditioning, The fans provided were uselesss and did very little to help with the heat. The shower was caked in limescale letting only a trickle of water though. We did complain on our first night to change room only to be told nothing could be done. The rest of the property was in a similar condition, with parts of the lobby ceiling collapsing, broken garden furniture with missing cushions and dead mosquitoes left around the dining area. For a hotel marketed as a spa hotel, it fell well short of expectations. Considering what we paid, it represented very poor value for money. The icing on the cake, whilst eating breakfast a guest of the hotel passed wind loudly infront of us, which I thought summed up my experience 💩
