The grounds are beautiful. We had a garden view room. The room was fine, but tired. Our duvet had a blood stain on it that was pointed out to house keeping. It's a Waldorf so expect to pay for that in everything on the resort - $27 hot dog. We hauled it bags ourselves because no one was there to help, but there were employees everywhere. There's no self park and valet is $80/night. About 2 blocks down there are The Shops at Wailea where you can eat for a more reasonable (by Maui standards) price and has several options. They also have some cute stores. This was a very kid friendly resort so there were kids everywhere - that should be noted if you're looking for a relaxing pool vacation (this is not it). Our 6yo loved the pools and slides. She was too small for the big slide. We enjoyed our vacation, but we'll likely stay elsewhere next time.
The gardens at this location are absolutely beautiful, colorful, well kept, and diverse. Unfortunately that’s the only positive during the 1 week stay at a 5 star resort. Outside of the grounds, this might be a 4 star resort, possibly less. The facilities are extremely dated, the staff is unpleasant, and people are packed in like sardines everywhere. There are lines to get towels, lines to get pool chairs, lines to get food, lines for concierge, lines for bellman, lines at elevators. It’s truly horrible. Oh, and there aren’t any beach chairs from your 5 star resort. (The four seasons has them next door) The first night we arrived after flying night and day, no hot water was available. We called, 20 minutes for someone to answer, and we were told yeah, we know, they’re working on it. So, child thrown in a cold shower and then time for bed, a great start. Then the elevator in our wing broke, 9 stories is not a small journey for child. Everything is just old, run down, holding on for dear life. I don’t know if I just expected more due to the name and price, but this place is definitely “not recommended”. The waterpark is fun for the little ones, but who comes to Hawaii for a water park.
Just spent 6 nights at Grand Wailea and I can see why it's one of the most talked-about resorts in Hawaii. The pool complex is the highlight of the property. Between the multiple pools, water slides, rope swing, and rapid slide, there is plenty to keep both kids and adults entertained. If you're traveling with family, it's hard to beat. The beach is beautiful, the grounds are immaculate, and the location is excellent. The Shops at Wailea are only a short walk away, giving you easy access to additional restaurants, shopping, and a market if you want alternatives to the resort dining options. The rooms were spacious, and we were fortunate to receive an ocean view upgrade, which made the stay even more memorable. My only real complaint is the cost. Valet parking is $75 per night, food and drinks are very expensive, and some of the extra charges can make you feel like you're constantly reaching for your wallet. A can of Coke was around $7 and cocktails were about $21. That said, the resort delivers on the overall experience. The amenities, service, location, beach, and pool complex make it one of the best family-friendly resorts we've stayed at. If you're looking for a luxury family resort in Maui and are prepared for the price tag, Grand Wailea is well worth considering.
We had an amazing stay at the Grand Wailea! The property is absolutely beautiful, with stunning grounds, gorgeous pools, and direct access to one of the best beaches in Maui. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, and there was no shortage of things to do for both adults and kids. It was the perfect home base for exploring the island while also enjoying some relaxing resort days. The restaurants, amenities, and overall atmosphere made for a memorable family vacation. We can’t wait to come back!
Overall the property is nice and well located. Unfortunately the onsite pricing is crazy, who doesn’t want a $38 personal pan pizza? Additionally I had significant issues with the front desk management getting things right and responding timely. The staff overall were great, just the front desk management is the issue. For the same price try the four seasons next door.
