Hotel Viking

Spent 2 nights here mid May after the remodeling and reopening of the hotel for a romantic weekend with my fiance. Overall the new remodeled hotel is gorgeous at first glance. The lobby, restaurant, bar, etc are all elegantly redesigned. The room itself was very pretty but it felt like the remodeling was more of a cosmetic facelift more than anything. The room itself got very warm despite the AC trying to maintain a cool temperature. The room never dropped below 72 degrees even though I had the AC locked at 65. Additionally, the toilet struggled to flush resulting in having manually remove the toilet casing and lifting the chain to flush appropriately. Understanding no hotel is perfect and recently refurbished, for almost $1,000/night id expect the basics like HVAC and plumbing to not be an issue. Other than that, great location ~10 minute walk to shops and restaurants and definitely gives off a luxury feel. Wouldnt return for that price but had a good time.

Don’t Let the negative reviews scare you off, it looks like most of those were placed before the renovation and this place is absolutely amazing. Gorgeous historic building, beautiful, tastefully decorated and clean rooms, convenient location, what more could you ask for? The hotel bar is very nice, as is the breakfast room. The staff was extremely friendly, courteous, and helpful, always on hand to point you in the right direction or Len a hand with your bags. The valet who brought our car around when we were ready to leave even helped us load our suitcases into it. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience here!

We had a terrible experience. The first night we did not have hot water and we had to take cold showers. Breakfast was weird with avocado toast consisting of cold peas and eggs and dry cold toast. We were about to check out and got upgraded instead to a suite. The house cleaner did not clean up a messy table and remove our dirty wine glasses or garbage. She left the garbage can almost on the floor when putting it back after emptying. The air conditioning unit was not working in the bedroom and when we asked to have someone assist we never got anyone to come to help. The front desk man was very lazy in answering questions about local activities and spas to visit. When asked to speak to his supervisor he replied that he is away from the desk. My husband had to ask him to call the supervisor to talk with him. Basic skills on customer service seem to be missed and more training is needed. We paid over $650 a night and we deserve better. The hallways were filthy with dust bunnies, crumbled paint on the carpets and the elevators were covered with smears on the door and floors.

Overall very disappointed with our stay at Hotel Viking. I’ll begin with the pros-dog friendly, good location, and what appears to be a nice renovation design. However, our stay was plagued with issues. The main being the air conditioning stopped working during a heat wave. Our room spiked at 83 degrees, prompting us to join the masses in the lobby to express our concern. I will say I felt for Christine and Marina at the front desk who had to manage an onslaught of irate guests, but they were both very kind through the experience and I understand it was out of their hands. However, for a hotel charging such a high rate, you would expect the HVAC to work. Overall, the suite was nice, but the bathroom was tiny and had a little face mirror—that’s all. The tvs are not connected to the internet, so there is no casting or anything. The fridges have no beverages and the water is only located on the 3rd floor making it very inconvenient to keep going to get some. There was one elevator for our portion of the hotel which almost always took at least 2-4+ minutes to come. The tuck shop has limited hours, so if we needed anything past the afternoon we had to venture into town to a convenience store. Overall, the stay was disappointing compared to the price point and although we did get compensation for the HVAC scenario, it is very disruptive to a trip when you have to consider leaving because it is uncomfortable and not to mention unsafe for your pets. I hope the hotel can remedy their ongoing hvac problem and consider adding basic amenities such as water in the room since they are marketing as a 4-star hotel. The only good consistent thing were the valet team. They were quick and I don’t think I had to open a single door the entire time.

Great hotel with amenities. Here for a business trip. Only real complaint was the water pressure (nonexistent) on the 6th floor. And the room being warm, even with the AC set up below 70 and the shades closed. I did get stuck in the elevator for a few minutes but that resolved on its own. Great service at the bar.
