Middleton Place

I enjoyed my visit. You could spend all day walking through gardens and learning about Revolutionary War history. I liked that there were sheep roaming around. The gardens are well maintained. The tour guide (Mark) did an excellent job explaining the design elements. I liked how peaceful it was. It gave perspective of all people who lived there and was inspiring. There were lots of restrooms and the gift shop was great. You can eat at the restaurant or get snacks and plants.

Stepping onto the grounds felt like traveling back in time to the Old South 🌿🏛️✨ Rumor has it that this estate inspired scenes from Gone with the Wind, and it’s easy to see why. The sprawling grounds, centuries-old oak trees, and picturesque landscapes make it one of the most beautiful places we’ve visited. One unexpected highlight? Spotting an alligator casually strolling across the lawn 🐊😳. Only in the South, right? It looked completely unbothered, as if it owned the place. We also happened to visit during a special heritage event, which made the experience even better 🎉. There were demonstrations on honey-making, rice cultivation, natural dyeing, and traditional drumming 🍯🌾🥁. We even got to watch Native American dancers perform, bringing local history and culture to life in a way that felt both educational and entertaining. What started as a visit to a historic plantation turned into a fascinating cultural experience. Between the beautiful scenery, living history exhibits, and surprise wildlife encounters, this was easily one of the most memorable stops of the trip 💛.

You definitely need good walking shoes! We took a golf cart tour first with Chuck of the outer property. What a sweetheart & a wealth of info. Then we spent 6hrs walking the beautifully landscaped grounds. We ate lunch at their restaurant & it was delicious. Highly recommend! This is definitely my new favorite place.

Had an incredible experience at Middleton Place with the family. As locals who live right down the road, this place is always a breath of fresh air. The grounds are absolutely stunning and full of history, but what really completes our visits is the restaurant. The food’s outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly fitting for the atmosphere of the property. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the entire experience felt relaxed and authentic to Charleston. Whether you’re going for the gardens, history, or just a great meal, this place is worth the visit.

Nice place to see some amazing sights. Gardens are beautiful and well maintained. They have a few very informative tours. Lots of historical things there to learn about. Really enjoyed my time there and learned quite a bit. Highly recommended for history buffs.
