Sedona Heritage Museum

We got there too early but able to walk through the property and enjoyed the outdoor exhibits. We met a wild boar on the trail. He didn't pay any attention to us and went on his way. Clean restrooms available. Make sure to carry water if walking up from the town.

Excellent museum presenting the real history and heritage of Sedona through the preserved home of Walter and Ruth Jordan, one of the early pioneer families of the region. The original house, kitchen setup, farming tools, typewriters, household articles, and old photographs provide a genuine understanding of how people actually lived many decades ago. The museum beautifully preserves Sedona’s cultural and social history in an authentic atmosphere. Very informative and worth visiting for history lovers and families.

We enjoyed it and learned a lot about Sedona! If you’re wanting to learn more about the history and evolution of Sedona and also how it got its name - check this place out. We spent about 1 hour, maybe a bit more here, exploring several buildings, each filled with Sedona area history. The main building houses a huge amount of local history in the form of plaques, dioramas, physical items, pictures, art and more. The barn houses an old horse draw buggy, a restored vintage Sedona fire truck, an entire apply processing plant and much more. The small, tan colored building seen closest to the entry point is a nearly 100 year old, fully restored movie set piece that was used as the telegraph office. The wireless set is in there along with a vast amount of movie posters, artifacts and details about the impact the filming of nearly 100 westerns had on Sedona. There’s also some spectacular views of close rock formations from the property. There are a couple of well done bronze art pieces outside. One is of a Cowboy Storyteller telling stories to two children. Another bronze is of a couple, standing on a broken wagon wheel, holding a lantern and looking straight ahead. This one is by artist John Muir and tells a story. This museum was a real nice visit.

Spectacular views of the red rocks and surrounding. A must for pictures spot. Great presentation of the original home stead house and farm. Boutique collection of American ranchers artifacts and stories in Oak Creek Valley.
