HOTEL DU PONT

My husband and I spent the weekend in Wilmington to visit friends, and we brought our small (senior) dog with us. We’ve stayed in a number of “pet friendly” hotels, but never have we felt our pet more welcome than at the Hotel DuPont. Staff and other guests seemed genuinely happy to see her, and we enjoyed the thoughtful touches that awaited us in our room, including a cozy dog bed, bandana, treats, and a water bowl. Our suite on the 12th floor was both comfortable and beautiful. We would love an opportunity to stay here again given the opportunity.

How they can call this a 5 star hotel is baffling to me. First of all, when I made the reservation I mentioned it was our anniversary. When we checked in, there was not a single mention of this. I asked for a sleep/sound machine, (5 star hotel mind you), they never acknowledged that either. When we got to our room, (lux king suite), the outlets/heat wasn’t working. We called the front desk, they sent an “engineer” up. He tells us the GFI on the outlet keeps popping and we have to just keep resetting it…..ummm….again….5 STAR hotel???? We had to ASK to be moved after the GFI popped 4 times in 20 mins. We get to the new room, I again ask for the sound machine….they said, oh, we’ll look into it??? I also had to ask for ice to be delivered??? That’s annoying when you just want some ice and have to wait 20 min or more for it to be brought to my room. So they were supposed to send the ice AND the sound machine….they eventually bring the ice but never brought the machine. I call down, they finally tell me they don’t have one but they offered a fan. Fine, I’ll take that. they eventually bring the fan. How is this a 5 star hotel??? I’ve stayed in many 5 star hotels, (Trump Towers, Waldorf, Langham). This hotel doesn’t do turn down service, no welcome note, nothing. Very disappointing. Maybe a 3 star at best. Also, we were on the top floor, terrible views. Seeing all the residents of a half way house loitering about all day and night right next to the unsecured parking lot our cars were parked in. At $65/ night for valet, you'd expect a secured lot.

Hotel DuPont was absolutely amazing and the perfect place for our wedding stay. We stayed there in August last year, and the service from start to finish was outstanding. The staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming, which made a big difference during such an important weekend for us. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and well maintained. Everything felt polished and thoughtfully done, and it gave us a great place to relax amid the excitement of the wedding. The Green Room bar was on another level. Easily one of the best bar experiences I have ever had. The bartender was exceptional and truly top notch, knowledgeable, engaging, and made every drink feel special. It became a highlight of our stay and a favorite spot for us and our guests. Staying at Hotel DuPont made our wedding experience even more memorable. If you are looking for great service, beautiful rooms, and an unforgettable bar experience in Wilmington, this is the place. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful experience hosting our sangeet at the Hotel DuPont. The ballroom is absolutely beautiful, with its elegant architecture, timeless design, and warm ambiance that created the perfect backdrop for our celebration. The space feels both grand and intimate, and it made the evening feel truly special for us and our guests. Shellie was exceptional throughout the entire process. She was organized, responsive, and easy to communicate with from the beginning, which made planning feel smooth and stress-free. I called her with multiple crises and she went above and beyond to address each and every wish and desire. For example, Dhruv and I desperately wanted to set up a stage for our performances and she pulled through for us! She helped us trouble shoot our seating arrangements and even smaller details like adding an extra seat to a table at the very last minute. Shellie’s professionalism, attention to detail, and calm presence made a significant impact on our overall experience. She played a key role in making our sangeet beautifully executed and truly memorable, and we would highly recommend her to anyone planning an event at the Hotel DuPont.

We hosted our Sangeet in the Golden ballroom at this venue. All our guests commented that it had been a beautiful and elegant setting. Shellie, our main point of contact, was very easy to work with and troubleshoot with (which is essential in the wedding planning process for those of you that haven't started yet). There's a nice and meaningful historical significance to the room as well, if you decide to truly look at the art (which Shellie will also likely explain during the tour). The staff was professional and accommodating, making the experience smooth and enjoyable.
