Newport Harbor Island Resort

Overall, we had a really wonderful stay and would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Newport. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, accommodating, and genuinely friendly, which made the experience feel relaxing from start to finish. The grounds are beautifully maintained and well manicured, and the main lobby and amenities are just as lovely. We especially enjoyed the bar, coffee café, and restaurant — all were great additions to the stay and made the property feel like its own little getaway. One of the biggest perks is the location on Goat Island. It’s peaceful, quiet, and feels tucked away from the hustle and bustle, while still being incredibly convenient. The hotel offers both shuttle and water taxi services to and from downtown Newport, which was such a nice touch. There’s also a bridge connecting you to downtown that’s walkable during nicer weather. We’d definitely recommend visiting during a warmer season so you can fully enjoy walking around Newport and exploring the Bellevue mansions. The hotel is also extremely dog friendly, which we loved! There were so many adorable pups staying throughout the property, and it really felt welcoming for travelers bringing their dogs along. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and had such a cute coastal vibe that fit the area perfectly. The only thing keeping this from being a full five-star stay was the noise. The walls seemed extremely thin, and we could hear the guests above us and next to us almost as if they were in the same room. There were also some unusual sounds that we believe may have been related to the pipes or plumbing system. Other than that, it was a really great stay overall, and we truly enjoyed our time here.

Our stay at Newport Harbor Island Resort was one of the most disappointing resort experiences we’ve ever had. For the prices this property charges, the condition of the resort and the quality of service were unacceptable. The resort was hosting a large business convention, and it was obvious that convention attendees were the priority while everyone else was left to deal with the consequences. The lobby and common areas were packed with convention guests, making it difficult for families and other visitors to enjoy the property. Instead of walking through the resort to our room, we had to go outside to get around the mass of conference attendees. The list of maintenance issues seemed endless. One of the elevators was out of service, forcing us to carry our belongings and walk up three flights of stairs multiple times during our stay, which was extremely inconvenient. The light in our room didn’t work when we arrived, and our room key cards repeatedly failed, requiring a maintenance employee to come fix the lock before we could reliably access our room. The shower drain did not drain properly, causing water to pool around our feet every time someone took a shower. Several chairs in the common areas were broken, trash sat outside guest room doors, the men’s lobby restroom had a clogged stall, and the lobby water dispensers were left empty. We also requested fresh towels for our room, and it took nearly two hours for them to be delivered. Everywhere we looked, the property felt neglected and poorly maintained. The customer service was equally disappointing. Check-in staff were rude and unwelcoming, setting the tone for the entire stay. Staff members walking through the hallways routinely ignored guests instead of offering a simple greeting. The worst experience came when a staff member yelled at my children for gently tossing a soft plastic ball in an empty pool. Rather than politely explaining the rules. That is not how guests—especially families—should be treated at a property that advertises itself as family-friendly. The harbor views are beautiful, but they cannot make up for broken facilities, poor maintenance, indifferent customer service, and the feeling that anyone not attending the convention was an inconvenience. We booked this resort expecting a relaxing, family-friendly getaway, but instead we spent the weekend dealing with maintenance problems, overcrowded common areas, and poor customer service. Management needs to do a much better job balancing large conventions with the experience of families and other guests. Based on our experience, we would not stay here again and cannot recommend it to others.

The staff were amazing, friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout my stay. They helped make my birthday feel extra special. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great experience.

The level of service we received made a lasting impression and is one of the main reasons we look forward to returning. The location of the hotel is outstanding convenient, beautiful, and perfect for enjoying everything the area has to offer. Location and vibe is excellent. Room was nice and clean. This hotel/resort is beautiful! We rented bikes and rode onto Thames Street, which was my daughter’s favorite part of the trip. There was a live musician at sunset out on the deck, which was an unexpected surprise! The only small issue we had was that the bell hop doesn’t start service until 7am and we had to leave before that. They only allow bell hop to use the luggage carts so we had to carry our luggage down one piece at a time. Not the end of the world, but was inconvenient.
